The Accelerated Freefall Program is an in-depth training program with certified instructors who will teach you the secrets of solo human flight.
Commonly called “AFF”, this course is designed by the United States Parachute Association to teach you all of the necessary skills and knowledge for solo human flight. Upon completion of this program, you will be certified to skydive alone and work towards the coolest license that earth (and sky) has to offer!
During each AFF skydive, certified instructors will join you in freefall, holding on to your harness and allowing you to demonstrate certain planned skills. It can be compared to learning to ride a bike with training wheels. The farther you progress, the more we can let you go!
Prior to gearing up in getting in the plane, you will be trained to perform in freefall, open and fly your own parachute, handle emergency situations should they arise and navigate and land your canopy safely back on earth. This training (AFF Ground School) will take place in a 6 to 8 hour course prior to your first jump. You can often jump the same day or the day after your course.
Prior to your first jump, you will be paired with two USPA AFF Instructors. The three of you will freefall together for 30 to 50 seconds. Instructors maintain a grip on the student’s harness to provide in-air instructor and to assist with stability if necessary. You will open your own parachute by 4,000 feet and pilot the canopy to the landing area.
Each AFF category is designed to take at least one jump and requires about 45 minutes of training. After successfully performing the objectives of each category, you move on to the next category. Once you have completed all seven AFF categories, you will be cleared to skydive without an instructor present! It doesn’t end there! As a solo skydiver, you will practice and hone your skills by yourself and in small groups until you obtain a minimum of 25 jumps and qualify for your USPA A License.
Once you have made your appointment for ground school, please visit USPA Online Ground School to familiarize yourself with the program.
A tandem skydive is recommended first as an introduction to freefall.
